Penn Hills Cruise Past Talbots
October 8, 2019
Hampton falls to the 1st Place Indians as hard losing streak continues for 4th week.
The Talbots needed an upset on Friday, but game up short in a 30-10 loss at Penn Hills. The Talbots got off to a promising start stopping the Indians on their first possession. Eddie McKissick threw an overthrown ball which resulted in a Will Schuit interception. Offensively the Talbots marched down the field on their opening possession but they would fall to the same fate the Indians did when Matt Dematteo threw an interception of his own to give the Indians the ball back.
The Talbots would then allow Penn Hills to drive down the field and allow Gemar Howard to open the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run. The Indians ran a tricky fake PAT and Anthony Grimes snuck passed the goal line for the 2-point conversion.
With 11:08 remaining in the half McKissick would throw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Dontae Pollard on a slant route to increase the Indian lead to 15-0. Matt Dematteo booted a 34-yard field as time expired in the 1st half to get the Talbots on the board 15-3.
With three minutes to play in the 3rd quarter Matt Dematteo threw to a wide open Christian Liberto for a 10-yard touchdown pass to cut into Penn Hill’s lead 15-10. But that would be all for the Talbots as the Indians pulled away with two 4th quarter touchdowns from Anthony Grimes and Gemar Howard. The Talbots fell once again to a conference opponent for the 4th straight week.
Matt Dematteo completed 5 of 15 passes for 1 TD, and 1 INT. Josh Andersson lead the Talbots with 10 carries for 137-yards. Luke Lindgren rushed 26 times for 71-yards. Will Schuit led in receptions with three catches for 51-yards.
The Talbots return to non-conference action next week as they travel to West Allegheny to take on the 2-4 Indians.
