Boys Soccer Wins in Shootout
October 22, 2019
The Boys Soccer team wins 2-1 (4-3 PK) over Ringgold in Round 1 of the 2019 WPIAL Boys Soccer Playoffs.
Upsets do happen, but not this time. Hampton’s home field advantage in the 1st Round would prove to be the difference in the end. Hampton fell behind early in the 36th minute when senior Andrew Bottino took a shot into the right corner of the goal to put the Rams up 1-0. For most of the game the score remained the same up till the end. With just about 5 minutes to go in the game, the Talbots got the break the needed. Gabe Viszlay set up Zach Panza on a cross pass to sneak it past goalkeeper Jeremy Mullen and tie the game at 1.
In two 15 minute overtimes both teams struggled offensively. Both Thomas Bradfield and Jeremy Mullen held their team’s goals well. The game went into an intense shootout to determine the winner.
Trading goals back and forth, both teams refused to let their seasons die. Zach Panza, Gabe Vizslay, and Christian Waldschmidt all scored the first three goals for Hampton. Thomas Bradfield made a huge save setting up Brennan Wesley for the game winning goal to send the Talbots to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Hampton will play #3 Moon in the second round of the playoffs on Wednesday (10/22) at Mars High School at 8;00 PM. Good Luck Boys!
