Fall Sports off to Strong Start in Talbot Territory

The Hampton Talbots have finally started their sports season and have emerged with flying colors. Hampton’s Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Volleyball, and Golf teams have all done very well to start off the season.

Football: After losing to Mars in front of a large audience on local television, Hampton has made an exceptional rebound back into form. Hampton won a shutout victory over Armstrong 17-0, and a close game against Highlands 28-21, putting their record at 2-1. Hampton is 3rd out of 8 in the Greater Allegheny Conference and will likely be favored in 3 out of their last 4 games. Hampton will complete their season with 10/2: at Greensburg Salem, 10/9: vs Plum, 10/16: at Indiana, and 10/23: vs Knoch.

Boys Soccer: As usual, Hampton Boys Soccer has started their season with plenty of wins to show for. Hampton has started the season 4-1-1, and all of their wins have been shutout victories. The overall point differential for Hampton this year has been an impressive 17-4 through 6 games. Last year, Hampton went 13-3-2 and lost to West Allegheny in the WPIAL Semifinals in a 1-0 game. Hampton is still in the pursuing effort to win the WPIAL Championship for the first time since 2011, and even the ultimate goal of winning the PIAA Championship for the first time since 2010.

Girls Soccer: The Hampton Girls Soccer team has also started well by boasting a 3-1 record and two 5-0 victories in their most recent games. Despite many regular-season successes through the years, Hampton hasn’t been to the WPIAL Championship since the mid-1990s. In 1994 and 1995, Hampton defeated Upper St. Clair in the WPIAL Championship and both games ended 1-0 in a shootout victory for the Talbots. By their successes to this point, it can be inferred that Hampton will be very relevant by the end of the season and the Mighty Talbots will be once again in the playoff conversation, come late-October.

Volleyball: In an apple-to-apple comparison, the Hampton Volleyball team has so far been the best out of all other Hampton sports this fall season; record and rank wise. Hampton opened the season with a 3-0, sweep victory over the defending WPIAL Champion: Knoch. Hampton would later win their next 5 games and start off 6-0. The Talbots went 11-3 last regular season and are poised to do even better this season. At the exclusion of Highlands and Fox Chapel, Hampton has already beat all of their remaining opponents in the first meeting. In all likelihood, Hampton is “set” for a successful season.

Golf: In contrast to most sports seasons starting, the Hampton Golf season is at its tail end. Regardless, they’ve played a competitive season with many high points. Hampton on the links had 9 wins and 4 losses. Hampton was able to achieve these successes, despite competing in a very talented section. Hampton, Fox Chapel, and Shady Side Academy are among the top teams in Section 8 of Class AAA.

In a season unlike any other, the Talbots showed a great response to adversity. They were able to stay focused on their game plan and execution, through the thick of many safety protocols. Moving forward, the remainder of the fall season looks very promising for Hampton!
