What’s In Store For Disney?
December 11, 2020
Coming to the rescue at the end of the dreadful year we call 2020, just yesterday Disney announced over 100 new projects for the coming years. From Pixar, to Marvel and Disney to LucasFilm countless shorts, series, and movies are currently in development. With the sheer quantity of projects that Disney is taking on, it can be difficult to maneuver through them. So, I compiled a list of the biggest projects for you.
Marvel
WandaVision– A series that will be following the lives of oddball heroes Wanda Maximoff and Vision will be the first of the long list of Marvel series to air. Finally getting its first real trailer just yesterday, Disney announced that WandaVision will be released on January 15th.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier– Avengers:Endgame left Marvel fans with lots of unanswered questions. However, one of the biggest of these questions may be about what the future of Captain America is going to be. At the end of Endgame, the original six Avenger gave up his shiny shield for a shiny ring and finally got his dance with his beloved Peggy. Receiving the shield was Sam Wilson, ie The Falcon. This new series may just be the most anticipated of all the Marvel shows to come. This series will be following the lives of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) in the aftermath of Endgame and yesterday it received a full trailer and a release date of March 2021.
Loki– It sounds a bit odd to say that fans are completely in love with a villain, however, fans are just that when it comes to Loki. Finally, the god of mischief will be getting a bit more recognition in the Marvel Universe. Also getting its first trailer yesterday(with a shot of Nat?), the series will be following the mischievous life of the Marvel villain after he disappeared in the alternate timeline from Endgame. This series is highly anticipated by Loki lovers and will be released in May of 2021.
Hawkeye– Though he may not be a huge fan favorite, Marvel superhero Hawkeye will also be receiving a series on Disney+. No release date has been announced yet, however it should be sometime next fall. Not much is known about this new series, however, new set pictures confirm that Hailee Steinfeld will be joining Hawkeye’s portrayer Jeremy Renner (and an adorable golden retriever) as the main characters of the show.
What If?– A new animated series that Marvel will be putting out also got a trailer yesterday. With characters voiced by many of the Marvel Universe stars, this new show will be exploring the what ifs of the MCU. What if Peggy Carter got injected with the super serum and became Captain of the Uk? What if Doctor Strange got lost in time? All will be answered and more in What If?
Other- Not many other big details were announced, however more shows and movies are to come. Ironheart, according to Kevin Feige, will be examining “Tony Stark’s biggest fears”. Secret Invasion will be following the life of SHIELD director, Nick Fury. Other new shows also include: Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms.Marvel, I am Groot, and a Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special. Marvel also released some details on some upcoming movies. Directed by Ryan Coogler and set for July of 2022, the Black Panther sequel is in the works, and WILL NOT be recasting the late Chadwick Boseman. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is officially in development and will feature one of the MCU’s biggest villains.
