The Talbots football, volleyball, and boys soccer teams start undefeated as they approach the end of September.

Football: After winning their first two games without a threat, Hampton found themselves in quite the tussle as Shaler rolled into Fridley in their third game. Both teams were 2-0, and the Titans looked to dethrone the Talbots by taking a 35-21 lead. Hampton came storming back and tied it 35-35 before Christian Liberto ran it into the endzone during overtime to get the 41-38 win. Hampton played in another thriller the week after against Armstrong. Tied with a few minutes left at 14-14, the Talbots drove down the field for a 21-14 lead, but the River Hawks countered it and scored themselves to make the score 21-20. Armstrong ran a gadget play for the two-point conversion, but the Talbots were able to bring pressure to force an incompletion, preserving the perfect season once again for the Talbots. The next opponent for Hampton will be undefeated Highlands. Both teams are looking to get the section edge as well as a 5-0 start.

Boys Soccer: The Hampton boys soccer team had a stellar performance by scoring 14 goals and surrendering none through their first four matches to start 4-0. In Hampton’s most recent game against Kiski, Gabe Viszlay scored a hat trick with three goals to guide the Talbots to a 3-0 victory. Hampton is trying to search for the magical season that has eluded them since winning the state title in 2010. Last year, Hampton came up shy in the WPIAL quarterfinals. They lost in double-overtime to the Mars Planets, who went on to win the PIAA 3A State Championship after beating the Talbots. Hampton hasn’t defeated the blue & gold rival of Mars since August 2013, as they were 0-13 since then. This year, change was in the air as Hampton found their revenge as they traveled north to Mars in their first match of the season and took the Planets down in a 2-0 victory. The Talbots girl’s soccer team found success as well, winning 4-straight games after a 0-2 start.

Volleyball: The Talbots girls volleyball team took a stellar start. They won a 3-0 sweep in each of their first five matches to be 5-0. Their five victories included: Mt. Lebanon, Highlands, Knoch, Shaler, and Deer Lakes. In their sixth match, Hampton faced 3A WPIAL’s second-ranked Freeport at home. From the start against the Yellowjackets, the Lady Talbots took a 2-0 lead winning two sets decisively 25-18 and 25-16. In the two sets to follow, Hampton couldn’t close the deal, losing 22-25 and then 20-25 to enter the 5th set tied 2-2. The Talbots regained the momentum and won the final 18-16. With their 6-0 start, the Lady Talbots took the #1 ranking in WPIAL 3A girls volleyball by the Coaches Association. This ranking puts them as the WPIAL Championship frontrunner and in a golden opportunity to make a run in the PIAA tournament.
