Fashion Rewind

In honor of New York Fashion Week occupying all fashionistas’ minds, let’s discuss some older trends that are being recycled back. Specifically, from the 90’s and 2000’s. These iconic eras of fashion are making a strong comeback through the influence of models such as Emma Chamberlain, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber. These fashion icons have a strong grasp on our teen audience. One teen fashion extraordinaire, Giulia Mauro, says that her favorite model is, “Bella Hadid! Her stylist does a really incredible job making outfits look classy, preppy, but grungy at the same time.” Fashion seems to be in the Mauro’s blood because her younger sister, Clara Mauro, says that, “Bella Hadid is also my favorite because of the elegance in her looks!” Clearly, these styles and models have a very big impact on our audience and beyond.

Now, what exactly are these models wearing? Some very popular styles returning are low-rise bottoms–skirts, jeans, and even slacks! These looks have been viewed frequently on Emma Chamberlain and the Hadid’s.

The opposite that was quite prevalent in the 90’s was high rise “Mom Jeans” which are more popular in teens casual wear. This style is typically worn more with baggy t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Another popular style to pair with both high and low rise, all the way from the 90’s, is the baby tee! While these weren’t really worn by babies, they get their name from being tight fitted and cropped.

Finally, some classic styles that aren’t going anywhere consist of trench coats, neutrals, black leggings, mini-skirts, tiny black dresses. These styles have survived the test of time and don’t seem to be going away anytime soon!

In terms of bags, some flying off the shelves are Hermes’ Birkin and Kelly in neutral color schemes, the Chanel Flap Bag, and Classic Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags. However, some phases in purses that we are currently seeing are fringe clutches, sparkly Prada bags, and Dior saddle bags.

What can you look forward to for the fall? The forecast is showing leather, leather, everywhere! Based on the most recent looks at fashion week, we can expect lots of leather paired with sweaters and sneakers! Another thing to expect is mom jeans with black shirts with a stylish tan trench coat to top it off.

Stay stylish!
