LeBron James’s Upcoming Milestones

LeBron Jamess Upcoming Milestones

Andrew Schivins, Writer

LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players to ever live, is closing in on many incredible milestones. The biggest one is coming close to the NBA’s all-time scoring. Entering the 2022-2023 NBA season, LeBron had scored 37,062 points. The previous year he jumped ahead of Karl Malone with 36,928. This year, he is second on the all time scoring list only behind L.A. Laker legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem had an astounding 38,387 points. He has kept this record since 1984, before LeBron was even born.

If LeBron averages his career average 27.1 points/game and doesn’t miss any games, he would be able to pass Abdul-Jabbar on his 49th game of the season on January 25th against the San Antonio Spurs. Since his teammate Anthony Davis is healthy, LeBron will have a tougher time to close in on the record. If he scores around 24 points/game and misses up to 1/4 of the season, he will surpass Kareem early in the middle of March.

LeBron is also seventh in all-time assists with 10,045, only behind John Stockton, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Mark Jackson, and Magic Johnson. If he gets 291 assists, he would be in fourth place on the list. LeBron is also the only basketball player in history that has recorded 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists in a career. These numbers help raise LeBron’s triple double number to 105. He has recorded 17 triple doubles, the most amount of triple doubles in NBA history since the age of 35.

James has played basketball in the NBA for almost two decades. It makes sense that he is third in all-time minutes on the basketball court with 52,139. He would have to play 75 games this season to become second. It probably would be a stretch to become first. A familiar face, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, has over 57,000. LeBron would have to play more than two seasons to become first.

All of these milestones show how great of a basketball player LeBron James is. Guess in the comments how many points LeBron James will get this season (he is at 249 so far)!
